OxLUG Linux Day

OxLUG is taking part in a major nationwide event on 29th April to help inform and enable people who've heard of Linux but aren't sure how to go about using it.

Whether you are a home user wanting to try out Linux, or are in business wanting to find out how you could benefit from it, come along to our event from 10am to 6pm this Sunday 29th April to the Oxford 22nd Scout Hall. We can guide you through installing Linux, supply you with a version to suit your needs and answer any questions you might have. Fill in the form at http://www.oxlug.org/linuxday/register.html and bring your computer along on the day!

What to bring

Demonstrations will include 3D-accelerated action games (eg Quake 3), and there will be a chance to purchase Linux-related books from Blackwells, who will be there from 2pm. Tea, coffee, soft drinks and biscuits will be available.

We hope to run the following short talks of between 15 to 30 minutes each (to be run when throughout the day where times not listed):

  • 11:00-12:00 - General Introduction to Linux (20-30 mins)
  • Securing Linux
  • Using Linux for Internet connection sharing and a home intranet
  • Hardware support
  • Office packages
  • Replacing Windows applications
  • Windows emulation tools (vmware and wine)
